How to Search Civil Dockets
The free starting point is Culberson’s iDocket search. Anyone with internet access can use it. Pick Texas first. Then choose Culberson County or Culberson District, and run both if you are unsure of the court level. One elected clerk serves the two jurisdictions, but the systems stay separate. Searching by Name is free and even allows partial names.
Use the party’s legal last name plus a first name or initial. Once a likely Case History appears, check the details against what you know. Look at the court, case type, filing date, party roles, and disposition date. Case-number display and advanced fields are subscriber features, and Culberson publishes no public case-number pattern. A broad name match is only a lead, not proof. Confirm it against the clerk’s record.
- Select Texas and the Culberson jurisdiction.
- Search the party name, using a partial first name if needed.
- Repeat the search under County and District.
- Compare court, case type, parties, filing date, and events.
- Contact the custodian for a missing document or certified copy.
Culberson County Civil Docket Custodians
Tina Urias appears as both County Clerk and District Clerk in Culberson County. The records still stay divided by jurisdiction. District civil and district family files travel the District Clerk route. County civil, probate, and county-court matters go through the County Clerk route. The office lists P.O. Box 158, Van Horn, TX 79855, phone 432-283-2058, and tina.urias@co.culberson.tx.us.
The Justice of the Peace courts keep their own dockets. Small claims, debt claims, repair-and-remedy suits, and evictions all live at that level. Van Horn Municipal Court is not a general civil court. Appeals run through TAMES. Federal civil cases in Culberson belong to the Western District of Texas Pecos Division and PACER. Pick the right custodian first. Otherwise your request lands in an office that never held the file.
What a Civil Docket Shows
An iDocket Case History can list actions, documents, financial transactions, and clerk notices. Motions, orders, answers or citations, and other items may sit in separate grouped views. Typical fields cover county, court, category, case type, party, attorney, filing date, and disposition date. Treat the display as an event index. It makes no promise here. Not every filed image is open or online.
| Case number | The filing court's identifier; no verified public Culberson format is supplied. |
|---|---|
| Parties | May include plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent roles. |
| Filings | Can include petition, service or citation, answer, and later documents. |
| Motions and orders | Track requests to the court and rulings entered by the judge. |
| Settings and result | May show hearings, judgment, dismissal, or post-judgment activity. |
Culberson County Civil Docket History
iDocket labels its coverage by category, and the starting points differ. District civil runs from January 1, 1987. District family starts at January 1, 1973, and County civil runs from January 1, 1978. County probate starts at January 1, 2013. Those are vendor coverage labels. They do not prove the clerk lacks older paper, archived, or differently coded files.
Read “N/A” the same way. County family and District probate show as N/A in the vendor category table. That is not the same as zero cases or no court authority. For an older Culberson County civil docket, give the clerk the names, likely court, document type, and date range. Do the same for a case type that fits no online category.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
Civil jurisdiction turns on the claim and the governing law. The District Clerk handles district civil and family matters. The County Clerk’s verified capability covers county civil, probate, juvenile, and mental-health categories. Justice courts supply the lower civil lane. A public docket can show an event. Facts and documents may stay out of view.
- District civil disputes and related motions or judgments
- County civil matters within the county court's authority
- Family cases, subject to specific privacy restrictions
- Probate proceedings and public portions of estate records
- JP small claims, debt claims, repair-and-remedy cases, and evictions
Always read case labels with the named court. One person can be plaintiff in one suit and respondent in another. Before relying on any event from the Culberson County civil docket, verify the case style and court.
Culberson County JP Civil Dockets
Culberson County has four JP precincts, each with its own docket. Local rules cover small claims, debt claims, repair-and-remedy suits, and evictions. They also set disposition goals. Civil jury cases get 18 months from appearance. Nonjury cases get 12 months, subject to continuance or pass. Those are case-management goals, not promised finish dates.
The rules call for an annual dismissal docket. It applies when a case has seen no action in the prior 365 days. A dismissal-docket setting does not mean the case was already dismissed. Precincts can also transfer a case by written order and consent. If a paper names a different precinct after a transfer, check the latest order. Contact that precinct, not the office where the case was filed.
Culberson County Civil Docket Inventory
iDocket's tally for September 3, 2026 listed 1,197 District civil cases, 517 County civil cases, and 59 County probate cases. District probate showed N/A. Read these as vendor totals, nothing more. They are not pending Culberson County court cases, annual filing counts, judgments, or counts of people.
For aggregate annual statistics, use the Texas Court Activity Database. iDocket and the clerk remain the case-level routes. Keep the two uses separate, and you will not mistake a vendor inventory for a fiscal-year activity report.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A Culberson County civil docket can show a motion hearing. It can also show a status setting, a pretrial date, or the trial itself. Read each entry next to any scheduling order. A later reset matters too. The entry alone is not the whole schedule. Confirm any portal date with the court before you drive to Van Horn.
No stable public daily calendar exists for the 205th or 394th District Court. Culberson County files stay local. Settings may run through the 205th office in El Paso or the 394th coordinator in Alpine. The 394th covers five counties. When the file and the schedule tell different stories, ask the clerk about the filed notice. Ask the coordinator about the current setting. One more caution: a continuance request does not move a hearing by itself. Only a signed order or court notice controls the new date.
Culberson County Civil Docket Portals
Start with iDocket for a Culberson County civil docket search. re:SearchTX offers a second route for eligible civil cases and documents, limited by Culberson integration and coverage. State reporting describes dynamic searches across cases, filings, hearings, and tracking. Coverage runs back to about 2016. Neither tool replaces the local clerk or promises every Culberson document.
Pricing adds up. OCA reported public document pricing of ten cents per page with a one-dollar minimum per document. Confirm current pricing and availability in the live system. The integration program ran through a statewide 2024–2025 rollout, and Culberson-specific status may vary. An empty re:SearchTX result just means one thing. Go back to iDocket or call the combined clerk.
The eFileTexas provider page names iDocket as an approved provider and outlines its case-access role.

Culberson County Civil E-Filing
eFileTexas.gov is the statewide filing gateway for attorneys and participating courts. A filer builds an envelope and picks a filing code. It is sent through an electronic filing service provider. The clerk then accepts or returns it. A returned envelope is administrative, not a judicial denial of the claim.
Filing is not searching. An accepted submission joins the court workflow. Public case information still comes through iDocket, re:SearchTX where available, or the clerk. Provider language notes that filings in participating courts may appear the next day. That is not a promise of instant or free access to every Culberson image.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a presumes court records are open. Sealing can still occur when the rule's findings are met. Statutes and other rules add their own limits. Texas Government Code §552.0035 makes one thing clear. Judiciary records follow court rules and other law. They do not follow the ordinary agency-request assumptions of the Texas Public Information Act.
Key access rules:
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a governs the open-record presumption and sealing standard.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 21c requires redaction of sensitive identifiers in court filings.
The 2025 Culberson DFPS order makes specified child-protection records confidential and defines an access process.
Keep sensitive facts out of a broad inquiry. Never send a minor's name, full birth date, home address, license number, Social Security number, or financial account details this way. Instead, provide the court, case style or number, document, date range, copy type, and safe contact details.
Culberson County Family Docket Limits
Family cases sit inside the civil docket. Yet not every family record is open. A local DFPS order governs suits under Texas Family Code chapters 261, 262, and 264. It names who may access those records. Other entities get an Exhibit A request route. Do not stretch that order to cover all divorce, custody, or other family files.
Juvenile matters fall under Chapter 58 confidentiality and sealing rules. Family records can also hold children's identities, protected addresses, and other sensitive data. So a missing public event may reflect a lawful restriction rather than no case. Ask the District Clerk which access process applies. Keep protected facts out of email or public forms.
Culberson County Probate and Mental-Health Dockets
OCA verification marks probate and mental-health capability for the Culberson County Clerk. A Probate Case History may list an application or petition, notice, order, and closing or discharge. An inventory or accounting may appear where public. Some medical details, identifiers, inventories, or account material carry limits. The county posts no local probate calendar or court-copy fee schedule.
Mental-health records demand more care still. The state verification confirms the category. But the County Clerk publishes no safe public field inventory or local online-access instructions. That gap is not proof of no record. Call the County Clerk and ask what identifying information and authority your particular request needs.
Culberson County Civil Docket Copies
Address copy requests to the court's custodian of the records. Spell out what you need. List the court level, case type, number and style if known. Note the document or event, the date range, and your plain or certified copy choice. Give a delivery preference and contact information too. Rule 12 says a judicial-record request should be written. It should also be specific enough to identify the item. Adjudicative case files may follow other court rules.
Fees vary by record type. The county recording schedule lists one-dollar pages and five-dollar certification for recorded instruments. But that schedule may not apply to civil case files. So ask for a current court-record quote. iDocket may gate some images behind subscriber or purchase features. Neither its display nor re:SearchTX promises that every Culberson County civil docket document is online.
