Search Culberson County Court Dockets

A Culberson County court docket is the running index of a case, showing filed items, court settings, orders, and its current status. To search the Culberson County court docket, first identify whether the matter belongs in district, county, justice, or municipal court. The clerk for that court is the key source. Local online access can help, but it does not replace the official file or a clerk’s confirmation. A Culberson County docket search may also require a state or federal system when the case is an appeal, an eligible statewide civil matter, or a federal action.

Four Culberson County Docket Paths

No single desk or database holds every Culberson County case. The combined clerk keeps county and district records. Each of four Justice of the Peace precincts keeps its own matters. Van Horn Municipal Court handles city ordinance and fine-only Class C cases. Appeals and federal cases travel through entirely different systems. Figure out which of the four paths your case belongs on before anything else, because that split is the first thing that stalls a docket search.

The official Justice page lists contacts for every precinct. Remember, a payment link alone is not a full case-history search.

What a Court Docket Shows

Think of a Culberson County court docket as an index rather than the whole file. iDocket calls its detailed view "Case History" and sorts entries under All, Motions, Orders, Answers/Citations, Other, and Financial. One caution: an entry can show that something was filed without showing the document image itself. Names, documents, and financial detail may also be redacted or limited.

Case NumberThe court identifier. No universal Culberson format was verified, so do not guess it.
PartiesNames tied to the action, subject to access limits.
Docket EntriesMotions, orders, answers, citations, and other events.
SettingsDates and labels that should be confirmed with the court.
CourtThe assigned court, which can have a regional judge’s office.
DispositionThe recorded outcome, not a substitute for the signed order.

Culberson County Docket in iDocket

The iDocket search help walks through partial-name searches and the Case History fields. Coverage varies by category and start year. County civil reaches back to January 1, 1978, District civil to January 1, 1987, and both County and District criminal categories to January 1, 1998. District family starts at January 1, 1973, while County probate starts at January 1, 2013. Treat those as vendor category dates. They do not promise that every event, image, or old paper file is online.

The vendor's September 3, 2026 count listed 2,282 County criminal cases, 517 County civil cases, and 59 County probate cases, with a District row of 572 criminal and 1,197 civil cases. Inventory shifts constantly. Those totals are not annual filings, counts of people, convictions, or any official caseload report. The vendor totals display separates County from District, which is a good reminder to query the right jurisdiction and case type.

One more display detail matters. The latest-new-case view showed August 28, 2026 on both rows. That marks the newest case filed in the display, not the latest event, document, ruling, or hearing in a Culberson County court docket.

Which Courts Keep Dockets

Sharing one clerk does not merge the courts. The District Clerk side keeps district records. Those cover felony, civil, family, and juvenile cases. The County Clerk side keeps county-level records. Those cover constitutional county-court misdemeanor, civil, probate, mental-health, and related records. Each JP precinct and Van Horn Municipal Court holds its own files. Texas appeals run through the Eighth Court of Appeals and TAMES. Federal cases go through PACER or the proper Western District clerk.

The combined clerk page spells out the local custody role.

Culberson County Docket Courts Work Regionally

Culberson County's felony and civil district cases are filed with the local District Clerk. The judge running them often sits somewhere else. The 205th District Court operates out of an El Paso office. The 394th District Court covers Brewster, Culberson, Jeff Davis, Hudspeth, and Presidio Counties from Alpine. So the file may sit in one town. The hearing may be set in another.

For the 205th, the county lists Judge Francisco Dominguez at 915-546-2107. For the 394th, it lists Judge Monty Kimball and coordinator Lori Holguin at 432-837-5831. Confirm which court has your case before you dial. Neither official page offers a Culberson-only daily docket, so settings come from the offices themselves.

That split shapes what to ask. The Culberson County District Clerk answers questions about the local court docket. It also handles copies from the trial file. The assigned district office handles a judge's setting, coordinator notice, or judicial order. Call the right one first, since a hearing may sit in a different county from where the case lives.

Finding Court Dates and Settings

A date shown in Case History is only a lead. The court itself controls the setting. County and district settings may rest with the clerk, the judge, or a regional coordinator. JP dates come from the assigned precinct. Van Horn Municipal Court runs its own settings. Its payment vendor is not a full calendar. The Culberson County court calendar routes walk through each channel.

Read every notice in full. Check the date and time. Then check the court, place, judge, and setting type. A reset or continuance only moves a date; it never dismisses the case. If sources conflict, call the court before you travel or file. County and city notices may also flag emergency access changes.

Statewide Culberson County Docket Limits

No single state portal covers every local trial search in Texas. re:SearchTX fills part of that gap. It offers statewide case and document access. That access applies only where a court is integrated and the record is eligible. Its reports cover cases, filings, hearings, tracking, and documents you can buy. Two limits matter. The collection excludes criminal cases. Its reach also goes back only to about 2016. So test Culberson coverage yourself rather than assuming it works.

Use the right layer. Start with iDocket or the clerk for a Culberson trial case. Use re:SearchTX for eligible integrated civil material, TAMES for an appeal, and PACER for a federal case.

The OCA posted a public document price of $0.10 per page, with a $1 minimum per document. Check current access and pricing before you buy. Statewide integration does not move custody anywhere. The court or clerk that made the Culberson County docket entry in the first place is still the office to ask for a certified copy or questions about a local filing.

Public Access to Dockets

Texas court records are not governed by a single public-information rule. Government Code §552.0035 sets the judiciary apart from an ordinary agency under the Texas Public Information Act. The split matters. Judicial administrative records may fall under Rule 12. Adjudicative case files answer to court rules and other law instead. Which rule governs depends on the record you want. A good request states the basics. It names the court, the case, the record, the date range, and whether you want a plain or certified copy.

Key Texas rules:

Government Code §552.0035 states the judiciary qualification.

Rule of Judicial Administration 12 covers many administrative judicial records.

Civil Rule 76a governs civil sealing procedure, while Rule 21c requires sensitive-data redaction.

Restricted Culberson County Docket Files

Not every file is open to the public. Juvenile records can be confidential under Family Code Chapter 58. Fine-only misdemeanor records may become confidential under Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 45A. That happens once the required conditions and anniversary pass. Sealed civil records, sensitive identifiers, and child-welfare material can also be withheld or redacted.

A March 2025 local order restricts access to Department of Family and Protective Services records. It also sets out a route by which certain other entities may seek access. That is why some family or child-protection matters never show up in a name search of the Culberson County docket. A blank result means one thing only. The query did not turn up the record.

Do not fight a restriction by feeding private data into a public search. Ask the office holding the file whether a redacted public version exists. Also ask which court process governs lawful access. The clerk can explain that process. But no clerk has power to undo a sealing or confidentiality rule.

The Clerk and Docket Records

Tina Urias heads the combined County and District Clerk office. That office can help you spot the right court. It can decode a local case-number form and provide plain or certified copies when available. When you contact the office, come prepared. Give the party name, any known number, the court or case type, the item you need, an approximate date, and whether certification is required. No court-file copy fee is published, so ask for a quote before sending payment.

eFileTexas Is Not Docket Search

eFileTexas.gov and iDocket serve a different job than docket search. The official filing gateway takes submissions. Attorneys working in Culberson County must e-file. The covered categories include appellate, district, county, civil, family, probate, and criminal. Non-attorneys get encouraged to file there too, though the FAQ does not generally require it. A provider sends the envelope, and the clerk either accepts it or returns it. Keep one thing in mind. A returned envelope is a processing step, not a ruling on the merits.

So the gateway is not a public lookup tool. Once the clerk finishes local processing, look up the public entry in the court docket. Use iDocket, re:SearchTX where available, or the clerk.

Culberson County Dockets by the Numbers

The OCA FY2025 countywide JP report covers September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025. It counted 17,047 ending active pending cases. Of those, 17,005 were criminal and 42 civil. Added cases came to 2,295, while 2,166 were disposed. Treat these as administrative case counts, nothing more. They are not residents, people, convictions, or warrants.

For the official figures, the Court Activity Database is the source that counts. Vendor inventory and fiscal-year activity measure different things. Do not compare them as one metric. Also resist dividing the high JP criminal inventory by county population to infer a rate. Cases can involve nonresidents or old pending work. Several matters may tie to one person, and traffic along major roads adds volume too.

Court Dockets by City in Culberson County

Van Horn is the county seat and the only incorporated community in the official county plan, so its municipal court is the one city court here. That court handles city ordinances and fine-only Class C cases, traffic citations included. County, district, JP, appellate, and federal matters follow separate routes even when they arise in Van Horn.

Culberson County Docket Entry Points

Start at the courthouse first. A case may sit in Culberson County while the notice stays vague about which office keeps the court docket. The main building sits at 300 La Caverna Street in Van Horn. The general line is 432-283-2059. A call there will not replace the assigned clerk or court, though it can point you to the right office. District cases are different. The local District Clerk keeps the trial file. Even after an appeal opens a new docket in TAMES at the Eighth Court of Appeals, that file stays put. The official county home page lists the courthouse and each department. It works well as a first stop before any docket search.
